LNG Training Course- Meeting SIGTTO Competency Guidelines
Code No 865
Introduction
This course intends to provide the competency knowledge required by Officers serving on LNG tankers, in accordance with the Competence Standards developed by SIGTTO. Its aims are to ensure that the user can achieve the competence required in a range of tasks on board, according to their rank. The program will also provide a record of the training that has been completed.
Who the course is designed for
Deck and Engineering Officers
Course Pre-requisites
No specific previous training is required before taking this course. However, before serving on a LNG tanker, candidates should have completed a recognised first stage tanker familiarisation course, such as the Videotel Tanker Familiarisation distance learning course. The more specialised Gas Tanker Safety course is also a requirement for those with cargo duties. This is also available as distance learning course from Videotel.
Course Objectives The program is designed to provide the underpinning knowledge required to achieve the appropriate level of competence according to the rank of the user. Where candidates wish to gain promotion, the course may also be used to study the knowledge required by higher ranks.
Course Outcomes
The course aims to provide the user with sufficient knowledge and understanding of the duties they are likely to undertake while on board so that they can safely and efficiently fulfil the tasks they are allocated.
Structure
The course is designed for individual self-study and is best used while at sea, although it can be used ashore. The course is modular and each Module is sub-divided into Sections and Units. According to the rank selected the user will be shown the Units that they need to study. After each Unit there is a test which indicates completion of that Unit. As Units are completed, they will be marked off in the Record Book so that the user can keep track of their progress. Practical tasks relating to each Module can also be incorporated so that there is evidence of competence in applying the knowledge acquired.
Mode of delivery
This course is delivered as Computer Based Training and the material is delivered on CD-ROM. Students follow simple on-screen instructions to get started. The program contains text with (optional) English language voiceover, still photographs, video clips and animations.
Course Duration
The length of time required for the course will depend on the user’s rank. This could range from about 10 hours for the electrical officer up to about 60 hours for the Master.
