The package concentrates on a serving officer who is responsible for carrying out
the company’s training policy on board ship.
Organizing and carrying out training programmes is a skilful job; it requires an
ability to assess on board training resources, identify who needs training and by
whom this can best be provided.
There are some simple techniques which will help the training officer to acquire the
necessary skills quickly and useful techniques and tips as well as providing forms to
help with the appraisal, organisation and scheduling of tasks.
ONBOARD TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT - STCW ‘95
Code No 651
Time: 25 Mins
This programme examines the process of training and evaluation on board ship for
both a deck and an engineering cadet as they acquire the required competence to fit
them for a job as an Officer. The importance of maintaining an accurate training log
is stressed as this, and other evidence, will be used for the subsequent assessment
of the candidate, usually at an on-shore establishment, which could lead to the
issuing of a certificate of competence.
