SKILLBANK ENGINEERING
Each Skillbank video concentrates on the demonstration of a skill. The camera
takes the learner right through a process showing every step. The video shows
what is happening in detail, in slow motion and from angles not normally visible.
They show skills in action in situations which would be difficult to replicate.
This module demonstrates the technique for grinding a twist drill using both a
dedicated machine and grinding by hand. It also shows how to grind the three
separate facets on a single point cutter to form clearance angles in relation to the
vertical and horizontal axes.
This module demonstrates clocking up a vice to ensure that the workpiece is held
exactly in line with, and at right angles to, the direction of movement of the milling
machine’s table. A dial test indicator is used to check the accuracy of the position.
This module demonstrates the setting up of 4 machine tools:
Setting up a four jaw chuck using the concentric rings, a scribing block and a dial
test indicator
Setting up a single point cutter in a lathe to centre height using shims and an
adjustable cutter holder
Setting up a cutter on a vertical milling machine showing the securing of the
cutter holder in the spindle and in a collet; securing the collet in the holder and
establishing the datum line
Setting up a cutter on a horizontal milling machine, securing the cutter, the
workpiece and the end bearing unit on the machine and establishing the datum
position of the cutter
