PART 1 - CONDUITS

    Code No 478

Time: 20 Mins

This module demonstrates in detail the fabrication of two pieces of conduit. A saddle or bubble set combined with a double set. Two right angle bends involving back-toback measurements to fit between two loop boxes. The finished conduit is fitted into an overhead lighting circuit.

PART 2 - CABLE TRUNKING AND TRAYS

    Code No 479

Time: 19 Mins

This module demonstrates in detail the fabrication of a length of cable trunking and a length of cable tray, each with a slow bend of 90 degrees made from two 45 degree bends.

PART 3 - INSTALLING CABLES

    Code No 480

Time: 24 Mins

This module demonstrates in detail the preparation and installation of three types of cable into a control box. FP200 cable, steel wire armoured cable and a mineral insulated cable. The use of stripping tools is shown.

PART 4 - TERMINATING CABLES

    Code No 477

Time: 15 Mins

This module demonstrates in detail the termination of a range of cables using different types of compression tool. Twin and earth cable connected to a fused isolator switch, pre-insulated terminals secured to cable ends by a hand operated compression switch, three-phase steel wire armoured cable using a hydraulic compression tool and a vice-held manual compression tool, a range of cables fitted into a busbar chamber.

PART 5 - INSPECTION AND TESTING

    Code No 476

Time: 23 Mins

This module shows in detail the inspection and testing of an electrical installation. It emphasises the importance of proving the instruments on a known supply prior to use. The testing of the instruments, voltage indicators and test lamps is shown. Also shown are isolating, locking keys, and the posting of warning notices. The video also shows various tests carried out. These include, continuity of protective conductors, test methods 1 and 2, continuity of ring final circuit conductors, polarity, insulation resistance, earth fault loop impedance, operation of R.C.D.s and current injection.

PART 6 - SERVICING A MOTOR AND STARTER

    Code No 475

Time: 21 Mins

Motors: This module demonstrates in detail the stripping down of a motor to replace a faulty component, in this case a bearing. It shows the opening of a motor, removal of the rotor and a visual inspection of the stator windings. It also shows the motor being reassembled and the insulation resistance between the stator windings and the body of the motor being tested.

Starters: The dismantling, disconnection and removal for servicing of a starter unit is shown. The contact points are inspected and reassembled and the coil is removed and checked for correct voltage rating. Also shown is the reassembly and connection of the unit and testing of the remote stop and start buttons is carried out to ensure correct function.
