The GMDSS Trainer package prepares an officer for IMO/STCW’95 Compliant General Operator Certificate course and examination.

The Trainer is also suitable for refreshment of knowledge by officers who have already gained their GOC certificate.

This is intended for serving officers who need to overview the theory of the GMDSS concept, as well as practically prepare themselves for operating both personal computers and the various new Instruments contained within the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System.

The package consists of a computer based trainer program, which when used with the instruction manual works through all the separate items of equipment which form a GMDSS installation. This includes VHF, MF/HF Radio, Inmarsat A/B/C, Navtex, DSC, Telex over Radio and SARTs & EPIRBs. The operation of each can be practised on-screen, including distress alerting where appropriate.

The workbook entitled 'An Introduction to GMDSS' supplements the computer based trainer program. This book is a standard textbook dealing with the theory and practice of GMDSS. Additionally the package includes a student workbook entitled 'GMDSS Course for General Operator's Certificate'.

The user is guided through the elements of the Trainer package in a written guidebook and offered a structured briefing on basic operation of the various instruments - including practical exercises on a stand-alone personal computer. Suitable for use onboard.
