William O'Neil, CMG CM FREng.
William O'Neil was appointed Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization from 1990 until 2003, and was Canada's representative to the Council from 1972, and served as the Chairman of the IMO Council from 1979 until his appointment as Secretary-General. Mr. O'Neil is also the Chancellor of the World Maritime University and Chair of the Governing Board of the IMO International Maritime Law Institute.
Prior to his service with IMO Mr. O'Neil was President and CEO of the Canadian St. Lawrence Seaway Authority, serving in that capacity since 1980. Over the course of his career he has also held top positions in the Canadian Marine Transport Administration, served as the first Commissioner of the Canadian Coast Guard and been a director in Canarctic Shipping Ltd, and made Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights.
He presently holds a number of senior positions within the marine industry, and has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards.
William O'Neil was appointed President of Videotel Marine International in 2004.
