Clients who have subscribed to our VTS record management services receive reports consisting of a Training Matrix- Scheduler and Training Event Summary Report for each ship. The countless millions of shipping movements successfully completed each year without incident or mishap speak volumes for the excellence of the maritime workforce. That excellence is achieved as the result of a general recognition at IMO, and in the maritime industries generally, of the importance of training and education, properly funded by safety-conscious shipowners and managers. However, when casualties do occur, human error is usually the main factor, so training must be a continuous process. 
Videotel Marine International, the world's leading provider of maritime training packages and courses, is committed to the pursuit of safety through excellence. Having identified a desire on the part of responsible owners and managers to be recognised as quality operators prepared to go beyond basic, mandated industry standards, we recently expanded our activities by establishing Videotel Training Services (VTS). VTS offers a range of training products and services which can be customised to suit the individual needs of owners and managers. These include:
VTS is designed to help shipowners and managers to improve safety, to safeguard the environment, and to enhance the competence of their seafarers. Recently, in response to requests from owners and managers, the scope of services was supplemented by the addition of a facility whereby the individual training records of seafarers can be retained electronically by Videotel's Fleet Training Administrator (FTA) system, resulting in valuable savings in time and costs for operators, and in improved crew efficiency. The results of onboard training exercises can be automatically generated and downloaded to the FTA, and can thereafter be used to send quarterly (or as otherwise specified) reports and, where required, alerts or reminders in connection with individual seafarers. In this way, owners and managers are able to keep on top of crew efficiency in a highly efficient and cost-effective manner. VTS is also developing a dedicated Competency Management System, which can diagnose the competence of candidates and identify their strengths and weaknesses, as well as suggest remedial training to enhance competence in areas identified as weak. The system will be available via the web or in CD-ROM format.
