This video explains how to plan a job, collect all the right preparation tools, set up safety platforms, check all personal protective equipment, choose the right application tools and carry out the various tasks correctly and safely.

A typical schedule of work is shown, from checking the stores for available material, inspecting the existing paintwork, carrying out the preparation work, cleaning, preparing the surfaces with hand tools, with pneumatic tools and other instruments. Then the moisture content of the air is checked and the air and steel temperatures taken. The painting commences and we see the coats being applied in the correct order. The video illustrates on-board processes but reference is made to some dry dock processes such as large scale grit blasting. Finally, advice is given on health and safety regarding the handling and storing of paint.
