Module 2.6: MARPOL Surveys
As a result of successfully completing this Module you will:

  1. Be aware of the general requirements that all ships must observe in order to comply with Annex I of the MARPOL Convention.
  2. Understand the need for oily water separating and filtering equipment and the principles underlying their operation.
  3. Be familiar with those aspects of the equipment and systems that will need to be checked during the different surveys.
  4. Be familiar with the regulations incorporated into the recently adopted Annex VI of the MARPOL Convention.
  5. Understand how Annex VI can affect the operation of engines and incinerators and govern the quality of the fuel that can be used in certain areas.
