How do I install Cobalt? 
Cobalt offers 2 installation options; full and minimal.
1. Full installation installs all files to the hard drive and is recommended if hard drive space is available. This option maximises program performance and is recommended.
2. Minimal installation installs a few program files to your hard drive and the rest are accessed from the CD while using the program. This option requires less hard drive space, but may result in diminished program performance if you have a slow CD drive. This option also requires a couple minutes of set-up time within Cobalt's Administration section.
Instructions for each installation option are below.
Full Installation:
1. Insert CD in drive
2. Explore CD and locate the file setup.exe within the "Cob8H" folder
3. Run setup.exe
4. Follow the on-screen instructions. Please make sure the program is installed to a folder called "Cobalt8" located on the root drive, for example "C:\Cobalt8", "D:\Cobalt8", etc.
6. After installation, please read the manual for set up and unlocking instructions. The manual file is located within the folder ""Manual8" on the CD.
Minimal Installation:
1. Insert CD in drive

Can I trial the program for more than 30 days?
If you have exceeded the 30 day trial period and feel you have not had enough time to evaluate the program, we can extend the trial period. This is done on a case by case basis, please contact and request a trial extension in your correspondence.
How do I unlock the program?
If you purchased the program or rented it as part of your Library Rental Scheme, then you can install and unlock the program on one computer. Please complete the following steps:
1. Install the program on the most suitable computer for training
2. Start the program
3. The following window should appear
4. Record your “Serial Number”, this is unique for each computer
5. Send the following information to Videotel by e-mail, telephone or fax:
- Program name and version
- “Serial Number”
- Company or college name (and location, if more than one)
- Ship name & IMO number (if applicable)
- Contact name
- E-mail address
- Telephone number

6. Videotel will reply with a "Password" for completing the unlocking process
7. Start Cobalt and click on the "Register" button, the following window should appear.
8. Enter the "Password" you received from Videotel and click "OK"
Can I install and unlock the program on more than one computer?
Each purchased or rented program is licensed for installation on one computer. If you would like to install and unlock the program on additional computers, please contact for information about purchasing additional licenses.
What do I enter for a PIN Number each time the program starts?
The PIN Number is a code that is assigned to each person using the program and it keeps user records segregated. The default format is 1 letter, followed by 3 numbers, for example A123. This format can be customised by the course administrator. While evaluating Cobalt 8, select any code with the default format, such as A123.
